Wii Opera Browser getting an update
November 11th, 2008 Posted in News, Wii, Written by ValayUpdate: Some believe that the picture above might have been photoshopped. Obviously, if the image was indeed photoshopped, the news originally reported may also turn out to be false. Looks like we’ll have to wait for December to roll around, or an official statement from Opera/Nintendo to see if this update is the real deal.
- Buttons are new
- Compatible with Wii Speak
- Can have six tabs open at once (can be made invisible)
- View Wii mail from the browser
- Available in December for 500 points
- Owners of the browser do not have to pay for the upgrade

YES! Im useing the Wii browser right now, and its a bit of a pain. Im glad its getting an update. 6 tabs at once! And Wii speak too. Awesome.
By Valay on Nov 11, 2008
Tabs should definitely make browsing easier, though I’m curious to know how Wii Speak will be used.

WOW! I just saw this and (on my Internet Channel)…. I’m SUPER EXCITED FOR IT!!!
BUT WHY DECEMBER?!!!
And I was almost like 500 WII POINTS!!!
Shheww, GLAD I’m not gonna pay for that load of crap, & just be able to update!!!
What EXCITES me the MOST is WII MAIL… I’ll be soon able to have FULL email access back & forth, when emailing myself!!!
And yes also with WII SPEAK!!!

Make Flash work :\

They can keep those.. I’d prefer an update that actually made it useful online for more than just reading text.. Youtube is the only site just about that you can even watch videos on any more.

Please update flash. Please update flash. Please update flash. Please update flash. Please update flash. Please update flash.
Please update flash. Please update flash!!!!!! Please Opera and Nintendo… GIVE US A MODERN VERSION OF FLASH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!

This is great. I was almost like “Hell No 500 Wii points” but then I read I just get to upgrade.
Also like others Updated Flash Support would be Appreciated. Although I don’t think this will ever happen because Nintendo just isn’t that familar with programing browsers. A flash upgrade I believe would probably have to come from the Adobe or Opera developers. Although we can all just hope it is within this update and their just not mentioning it.
Here’s to Hoping

By LTD on Nov 12, 2008
Yes, the crucial thing would be to get the standard plug-ins working on the Wii.
But aside from that: nice changes !

If they never update flash (which I think will be the case) you will be able to use playon in early 2009 ( http://www.themediamall.com/playon ).
You probably won;t see a new flash version until Wii2 is released and it will only be in Wii2.

It looks like they don’t care about it..f..But I play games and apps on HOMBREW CHANNEL. these guys make a lot of cool stuff. Maybe we can ask them to make wii browser like apps with flash 8 or 9 or 10, run via homebrew channel.

How the hell am I supposed to see online TV, Streaming Articles, Pod casts, etc etc etc!!!
I think I’m gonna scrap my Wii…if all Nintendo thinks about is points for their software!!! Don’t you see Nintendo? The more versatile you are, the more Wii users you get…I’m actually considering the XBox now since they merged with Sky Television….why you may ask? Cause they´re not in GAME MODE!!! Get your act together NINTENDO!!
