Reggie on Metroid: Other M possibly being M-rated, teases MotionPlus support for Galaxy 2
June 5th, 2009 Posted in News, Wii, Written by ValayWill Metroid: Other M be the first M-rated Metroid title? Probably not, but President and COO of Nintendo of America Reggie Fils-Aime wouldn’t rule it out. He said that the game won’t necessarily be given a mature rating and that fans shouldn’t look into the term “Project M” too much. Yet it’s still interesting that Reggie simply didn’t say “no” to the possibility of Other M being M-rated.
“Big Metroid surprise. We’ve been holding this one very close to the vest to make sure that the surprise would be there. Not only the game itself looks fabulous but also this collaboration with Team Ninja, which has been very fruitful, very great work together. Not necessarily [M-rated]. At this point, it is very early, we said it’s a title that’s going to come out in 2010. Really, Project M is our internal terminology for the collaboration for what’s being done. Don’t read into it as to what the ESRB will be.”
Reggie also spoke about Super Mario Galaxy 2. He promises that the game will have new hooks to it. Also surprising is that MotionPlus support was teased.
“There are new hooks to it. We’re not announcing exactly what those are. We showed a little taste of what happens with Yoshi, so that’s a new addition to the Galaxy experience. Will it work with MotionPlus or not? We’re going to keep you in suspense a little bit longer on that, but it is obviously going to advance the ball. We feel it has to in order to carry the Mario name.”

An M-rating would be a nice new addition, but it isn’t necessary to be enjoyable, as for M+ in Galaxy 2 bring it on

I can guarantee you that it will not be “M” rated.
An “M” rating limits the audience who can purchase the game to those age 17 and higher. For Nintendo to forgo the teen crowd for one of their AAA franchises would be foolhardy.

Heh, yeah. I personally don’t think it will be M-rated either. But like I said it was kind of interesting that Reggie didn’t flat-out say “no.”

Well it would be nice if Nintendo had at least 1 M-rated game in their portfolio, they are supposed to make games for everyone, but they never make games just for adults !!! I think adults fit into the everyone category

It doesn’t matter what rating the game gets. We all know its going to rock our worlds. 2010 can’t come soon enough

he is saying it because Team Ninja games were normally Mature, so he already suspected it:P
But I’m sure it will not be Mature!
They will tone a lot of things down.
Nintendo will complain that they want this game to be Teen.

This game better not be rated M. It doesn’t need to be. It’s fine just being rated T know higher. Alot of metroid fans would probably be very disapponted if it were rated M. This doesn’t have to be for adults only!

I don’t see why Galaxy 2 would need motion plus.

@gameboy7793
If your saying that the fans will be dissapointed for it being M, that means your saying that fans of Metroid are younger than 17.
You relize mom’s always buy M games for their 8 year old kids because they don’t know what it is.
An example: Couple months ago, I played COD WaW with a 6 year old, I swear to god, he sounded like his balls were never going to drop, ever!

I noticed a few things in the comment section that I must fix.
A) M ratings arn’t Adult Only. Those are AO’s.
B) There are a lot of good M rated games on the Wii! Like Resident Evil 4 and Mad World!
I personally hope this is rated M because then the genre could expand it’s borders into a more mature setting, instead of the atmosphere it is in now.
