Miyamoto: Something was missing from last Zelda game
October 29th, 2008 Posted in News, Wii, Written by ValayEven though Twilight Princess was in development for years, in some ways, fans were disappointed. The game, while not even close to being a bad game, simply fell short of some expectations. In a way, Shigeru Miyamoto feels the same way in that he feels as though “there was something missing” from the experience.
“That’s something that I talk to the members of my development team about on a regular basis. What I’ve been saying to our development teams recently is that “Twilight Princess” was not a bad game, by any means. But, still, it felt like there was something missing. And while, personally, I feel like “Super Mario Galaxy” was able to do some things that were very new and were very unique, at the same time, from another perspective, certain elements of it do feel somewhat conservative in terms of how far we branched out with design. And so this is something I’ve been talking to both of those teams about. Of course, as is customary with Nintendo, it’s very rare that we are able to announce any games until they’re ready for release, but I can say that these are themes that both of those teams are taking into account and the hope is that for both of those franchises, when we do release the next installments of the “Zelda” [franchise] or maybe the next “Galaxy,” hopefully they will feel newer and fresher than their most recent versions.”

Gee… another thing Miyamoto has to say… aren’t we getting rather annoyed by them or just happy he’s talking a lot lately?!
But glad to see this interview; it’s intreging!!
Somehow I doubt the thing Miyamoto is mentioning; that the something missing could be actual better gameplay and controls… because I doubt anything storywise is fine!
Okay maybe my take on it is more like this:
Could change up the story/Zelda formula a bit to make it a lot more different from all of the rest of the Zelda’s… maybe not have Ganondorf at all; and could a true sequel to Twilight Princess?!
Even have say motionplus controls; or say more detailed and in game experience to use Zelda weapons… maybe revive some old items?!
If I wanted to say something DIRECTLY to Miyamoto and the Zelda teams: WHY NOT BRING BACK the PEGASUS BOOTS, or items from ALTTP that we’ve havend seen in a COONs AGE (or since the Handheld games) in a 3D Zelda console game?!
IT’S SOMETHING I MOST SERIOUSLY WANT… TO GO CHARGE WITH THE PEGASUS BOOTS YET ONCE AGAIN; and ditch Epona at least once, just to make it a good thing!!

That almost confirms that another Mario Galaxy is coming out. And they called the first one conservative! There better be some crazy amazing things in the new one, cause I can’t believe how good the first is.

@brad
Same here… I also bet a new Mario Galaxy could be more cool; and maybe will involve lots more open galaxies to explore!!

Well I know exactly what he is talking about. Neither Zelda:TP or Galaxy have the same charm as the older games, and I think that’s just due to safe design. I didnt like Zelda too much, but Galaxy was decent, but I didnt love it. It felt empty to me. Just a bunch of platforming challenges. Nothing new at all. But the old games all felt like they brought something new.

Where the hell is Star Fox Wii!!!??? Yeah sure Mario and Zelda have been beaten to death with iteration after iteration of games, why not give McCloud a fresh start by having one of his games made by his parent company and mastermind behind it all. None of this third part crap, Rare…Fail, Namco…close but the Star Fox they made fell short of expectations. I’m sure Miyamoto can bring Fox back to his rail shooter roots once and for all.

I agree with all of you, if maybe Nintendo can make a DLC for Twilight. They can exspand the map, and add all towns etc etc. Or have this on the new zelda, and maybe even team up with Capcom again
. Nintendo can even some sort of leader boards. You know for how many poes you slay. Also, if ever one can e-mail Nintendo this that’ll be great. They can even remake the four swords and have wi-fi!
