Miyamoto responds to harsh criticism of Wii Music

Shigeru Miyamoto has been discussing Wii Music as of late, and today there’s another issue that has been brought up. Miyamoto recently responded to some of the harsh reviews of Wii Music handed out by critics, most specifically IGN’s Matt Casamassina.

“There’s two ways I can talk about that. One is, I think — you point out the IGN review in particular. And my guess is that rather than it being an instance that the individual who wrote that — I’m not sure if it was Matt [Casamassina, IGN's Wii editor] or not — but whoever wrote that review, I think that the perception is because they’re a core gamer they don’t like “Wii Music.” And, in fact, what I think is that the ideas behind “Wii Music” simply didn’t resonate with that individual. I don’t think it was a case of: because they like games, they don’t like “Wii Music.” That person simply didn’t like what we presented in ‘Wii Music.’ I think the other thing to us that’s very important is there’s two things. Number one is that we continue to work on the same types of games that we have made for many, many years. Beyond that, we have branched out and we are creating additional products aside from those that, like “Wii Music” and like “Wii Fit” are very different in tyle and have a very broad appeal. The way that our teams work, as I mentioned earlier, is that a lot of the team members, let’s say for example from a “Mario” or a “Zelda” team, will swap in and out among different teams. And so I think internally for us, the ability to have people who have been working on the same game for many, many years and to be able to take a break from it and work on a product like “Wii Music,” where they’re able to look at design from a different perspective and broaden their own perspective in terms of the types of things that you can do in interactive entertainment [is good.]. Then, I think, when they go back and take that experience with them back to the other teams, back to, say the “Zelda” team or the “Mario” team, when they’re working on those franchises, they’re going to be able to draw on that experience to create experiences that not only are broader-appealing for those franchises but also are bringing in new ideas that are going to appeal to people who have been very familiar with those franchises for a long time.”

    In other words Miyamoto is also dissapointed; but likely doesn’t care if people hate Wii Music…

    (and yes I’m clearly pointing figners towards stupid IGN’s Matt for example; because theirfore he’s just an idiot who doesn’t know games are just meant to be fun… no matter how bad they are!!!!)

    I know Miyamoto has been talking a lot lately and lots of posts on Nintendo Everthing pop up now and then, saying this and that that Miymamoto is working his butt off and trying to get hardcore fans to trust in Nintendo again!!! ;)

    But seriously; if anyone taking anyone’s side… IT HAD BETTER BE Miyamoto’s, so definding his voice about any negativity towards Nintendo in any way is high proirity to those who have a sensable brain in their heads!!!

    I’m a long life Nintendo fan, and I for one am just disgusted with this day and age/generation of Nintendo players who can’t wait patently, bash Nintendo at anything cassual nowadays… it’s just all WRONG!!! :(

    And of all the things a toy(sorry game) where alot wii owners asked are you serious, you want me to play that.

    What happened to the good old days, when owning a nintendo console was a source of pride for a gamer, they died off after the 64 hit to me.

    You call me stupid and you can’t even spell the word right, good god talk about lame.

    All caps isn’t a mark of intelligence nor impressive either, you talk about the good old days of nintendo.

    And yet your post look like a ten year throwing a temper tantrum wrote it, with cussing, insults and generalizations.

    When it comes to fanboyism i think you could give others lessons.

    I believe this will make the 4th or 5th time i have posted here. I don’t come to a nintendo site regularly and talk about what a croc i think the wii is, so drop the for once bs.

    You know people are allowed to have an opinion even if it disagress entirely with yours, isn’t that shocking.

    So do you have a shrine dedicated to miyamoto in your room, with the amount your sucking up to/defending him i would hope so or worse.

    So is anyone pointing out that this Wii Music thing is like apple’s Garage Band software, minus… actually making music?

    Come on. If we must bash nintendo (i don’t NEED to, but i like to), we should do it for the right reasons. I don’t see why people who haven’t enjoyed videogames since day one (i.e. casuals) can’t have games for themselves: What i see as shit is that OMG IT PRINTS MONEY! Nintendo strategy. Prove me wrong! ask the Japanese why they aren’t happy with the idea of the DSi! They don’t like the idea of Nintendo selling them the same hardware a third time; sure: camera, dsshop, bigger screens, blah: irrelevant to the handheld’s game execution… well, maybe you’ll use the lame 0.3 Mpx camera for DSFaces or DSAnimalPhotographer.. good luck printing your images in stamp size paper!

    Casuals are technically a bigger market than cores (anyone who isn’t a core or semi core is casual – TECH-NI-CA-LLY), so it’s really no surprise that nintendo uses their “E for Everyone” focus on development as justification for flooding the market with shitware… join me for another round of Carnival Games? That it has to developed as E doesn’t mean it has to be kiddy, or cute, or not fun.. or just plain shit.

    Also, i own a DSLite. So you can stick your fanboy counterargument up yours. In fact, the more i use this gen’s consoles, the more i see things in them, and their games, i hate.

    Also, last post was three days ago, so noone(sic) will read this, so it won’t add up to the nintendo bashing.
