Miyamoto: Hardcore gamers will play Wii Music too

October 27th, 2008 Posted in News, Wii, Written by Valay

With Wii Music, those who do not find the game appealing will not be convinced otherwise at this point. Generally speaking, it seems as though most hardcore gamers will be staying away from the title. Shigeru Miyamoto, however, believes that there are some core gamers out there who will be attracted to what Wii Music brings to the table. “I think you’ll find people who are as hardcore playing Wii Music as any other game. I have found that, as a single player, you can spend over three hours arranging a single song. Since there’s 50 songs, simple math tells you that you can spend 150 hours playing it – and that’s just by yourself.”

That’s kind of weird too say. Miyamoto kind of seems in denial that his game critically failed. Well it’s going to sell either way.

As an avid gamer and now a practicing game designer, I think Wii Music at least stands to teach developers something about how to map musical controls to the Wii’s controller. I’m going to try it as a test to determine if the Wii is the console of choice for a rhythm/RPG hybrid I’ve been kicking around in my head since Ocarina of Time.

I’ll buy it when it goes down to $29.99 or $19.99. There are a couple of things that are important to me when I buy a game and Wii Music just doesn’t justfy it’s high price. The things I look for are…

Story – Wii Music Really Doesn’t have a Story so that’s out.

Gameplay – With the way it sounds Wii Music plays itself and without good gameplay what’s the point.

Music – As I understand it the music has a lot of public domain music in it. Nothing I really care for.

Graphics – Same kind of Graphics that were in Wiisports & Wiiplay. Again Nothing Special

It has a cool online mode and it’s great to be able to customize your own music but that still isn’t enough to justfy a $50 price for it.
