Analyst is “absolutely convinced” that Wii HD is in development

October 7th, 2008 Posted in News, Wii, Written by Valay

Rumors have been circling around as of late that Nintendo has a WiiHD system in development and has been showing it off to a few select people. Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has commented on the speculation and is “absolutely convinced” that a Wii HD system is being created by Nintendo. “A Wii HD would really position Nintendo well, which is why I’m absolutely convinced there is a Wii HD coming. Businesswise, they can’t have people saying that their machine is a toy for my mom.”

Well, i don’t know. It would just make sense if it either supports Blue-Ray or a lot of television programs in HD. But if it goes after a true second generation of Wii hardware hmmm … Well i guess it’s too early to really talk about something like that. Of course Nintendo is “already” hard at work to have their next console ready at the right time. But as long as it is selling so well and not even all of the hardware accessories have been used it just doesn’t make any sense to talk about a successor.

“Businesswise, they can’t have people saying that their machine is a toy for my mom.”

On the contrary, much of Nintendo’s success this gen is PRECISELY because people call the Wii a toy for Moms. Moms are buying game consoles. Grandparents are. Young adults for parties. Kids want it. Everyone wants the thing except the hardcore 15 year old boys who fear it for not being “manly” enough compared to the 360 or PS3. No, I think Nintendo realize that the casual buyers are buttering their bread this gen and I don’t think they’ll be too quick to disabuse the market of the notion that the Wii is for everyone, INCLUDING moms.

Nintendo got themselves back on top by creating innovation. I doubt they would do something stupid like this and lose all their new casual fan. Buisnesswise this would be a bad idea until the cost of making a high def machine goes down. It would position them horribly in the scheme of things.

Yea but for us Hardcore gamers im a little upset with with Nintendos system. They need to make the Online ALOT better and they need to kick up the graphics not only because fans enjoy it but because of its lack of ability alot of publishers are not even attempting to work with it.

used Cisco, Your right! That IS why they are on top and they would be stupid to not want to stay as the console mom buys! In fact I can see them wanting the same NEXT generation. I can see Sony and Microsoft wanting the SAME title. This is when the PC exploded, this is when the internet exploded. This is when the cell phone exploded. This is when the printer exploded. This is when the digital camera exploded. This is when the webcam exploded. When they stopped being a young male thing, and started being a thing mom wanted.
