Sony’s PlayStation Move controller looks a little familiar…

March 10th, 2010 Posted in News, Wii, Written by Valay

Update: Added in the promo video of Move as well (thanks Thomas!)

The first image below is, of course, a picture of the Wii remote and nunchuck. Nintendo has used the image countless times as promotional material.

Now, here’s one of the first pictures released by Sony of the newly announced PlayStation Move controller, along with its Sub-Controller…

Motion controllers aside, it’s a bit funny that both promo images look so similar, don’t you think?

Funny stuff, even the adverts look exactly the same (not just this promo image, also the ones where families are happily playing family games together). The first batch of games seem pretty terrible, but once they get some good exclusives, who knows, it could be good. I doubt it’ll be even close to Wii’s success though, but it is rather painful how Sony is ripping Nintendo off. I’m also not sure using the Eyetoy camera was a good idea; costs more money, and from what I’ve read only the motion controls are slightly more accurate (although it has the same recalibration issue) and the pointer controls are *less* accurate! If anything, I love the pointer controls on the Wii and I hate the motion controls (when used for waggling/over-used)

SONY PS3 ftw, much better and stronger console. if they can incorporate the Wii motion thingy in to it, it would be ace. (personally am not a fan of motion gaming, at ALL).

Dont think its a problem if they are using the same concept of Nintendo’s joysticks, as the PS3 is not focused on the motion concept; but rather as an additional feature or a bonus.

You do all know that Sony has been the pioneers in motion controllers.

And People they have been working on “Move” long before Nintendo started on the Wii.
What happened was Nintendo launched this technology first but its whack its not precise and developers know this on the other hand Sony!! decided to do it right and they have taken motion controllers to the next and best level.Just because it looks similar doesn’t mean it will play similar it wont Sony’s controller is going to allow for a wide array of games. But don’t take my word for it Check out the GDC demos and prepare to be amazed.

lol @ all u nintendo fanboys

yeah you mention how many units nintendo has sold… well they sold me one too, and it has sat on my desk doing nothing but collecting dust for the last 2-3 years. Just cuz u sold lots of something doesnt make it good.

the Wii was (and is) a gimmick. A gimmick which sold VERY well, but thats all it did. Unless you are 5 years old, or want a crappy fitness routine, the wii is a useless peice of garbage.

I have Wii, PS3, Xbox 360(at least until it red ringed), and PC. PC wins by FAR everytime. Who cares if sony copied the nintendo controller? the nintendo controller sucks!

although really, it doesnt matter what system anymore, cuz *almost* every game released these days is terrible

The Nintendo Wii Motion Controller is garbage. The Wii Motion Plus Came out and… nothing. Have all you people talking about how great Nintendo is been playing Wii Sports Resort over and over again for 6 months? Must really love that Sword fighting game.

Sony Motion Control and Camera tech is light years ahead of Nintendo, and combining that with a 2 mb ram footprint means we can play real, intense, and well-designed games that feel modern.

Unlike the wii which gathers dust and Natal which, not matter what they do, will only allow you to play a game with 50% of the power a normal game has.

So, even though Sony sucks as a company, maybe this is our best bet at some interesting and next level games.

Honestly seeing as No more heroes went multi platform then maybe more wii games will come out on ps3 with the ps move. think about it ps2 was always getting games from the xbox or the gamecube it was always in the middle. and with the move developers can make wii/ps3 games bc of the similar controls, and 360/ps3 games bc of the graphics. So the playstation is in the middle again and will be able to offer more games, thus being #1 AGAIN!! ps i dont have one.im a pc gamer.

They have a long history of this. I saw a post on N4G where someone linked to DreamEye. Yes that is the Dreamcast camera and yes Sony didnt even bother to rename it when they copied it with the EYETOY. Then they have nerve to call Natal a ripoff.

I don’t care what the controller looks like. What it boils down to is how good the games are. The Wii just doesn’t have as many great games for it as there should be for a console out this long.
The market for motion control games is still up for grabs.

All you people are saying Sony copied this, Sony copied that, Sony copied jimmy. That’s BUISNESS. You take what’s out there, what the people like and want and make it better. You people don’t think that if there a better version of the Wii out there that’s HD and does a lot more, they’re not going to get it? You must be insane to keep the original. Think about it, you guys said Sony copied Nintendo with rumble. Sony took it, made it built in and erased the need for batteries. That’s a win. End of the day, Move will sell.

Why are you people so mad about this anyway? Yeah, it’s true. Nintendo invented it and Sony saw potencial in it. Nintendo should be flattered and the Nintendo fans proud because they once again are leading the way.

And remember that the Xbox has rumble, the same button layout and the analog stick that Nintendo pioneererd so, don’t blame only Sony for what other companies are doing too.

BTW the Dreameye was just a simple webcam with a fancy name. The Eyetoy was used for games… Now this comparison is completely stupid…

@Alehan: Dude, who told you that? You have to be as gullible as Dale Gribble from King of the Hill. Nintendo invented a winning idea. They are the ones winning. Sony is stuck emulating because they are losing. That’s usually how it works. I’m not mad at anybody personally. Either buy all three consoles and enjoy yourselves or pick one and stop bitching. You know? Read that again: stop bitching. Facts are facts.

This is like saying that Honda ripped off Chrysler by manufacturing cars with power steering. Motion control is becoming an industry standard – so get your heads out of that dark and fragrant place between your legs and deal with it.

just goes to show that sony isn’t run by very good businessmen, at least not anymore. they should have stuck to making TV’s and PS2s, because they theory behind it is flawed. if you by a PS3, it’s normally because you are a hardcore gamer, and if you want innovative gaming, you buy a Wii. the reason the wii has a nunchuck controller is because it’s the optimal gaming controller for that type of machine, and the Wii and PS3 are very different machines. it’s like trying to sell a bicycle with car tires. Nintendo has lasted over a hundred years, because of it’s ability to innovate to suit the times. sony is making a big mistake.

anyway, this thing is apparently going to cost over $100 US. anyone who buys this is being ripped off
