Reggie disappointed that games like Modern Warfare 2, Assassin’s Creed aren’t on Wii, says next Nintendo console will need more than HD

“I’m extremely disappointed. I’ve had this conversation with every publisher who makes content that is not available on my platform. The conversation goes like this: ‘We have a 22-million unit installed base. We have a very diverse audience… We have active gamers that hunger for this type of content. And why isn’t it available?’ I think for those games [Modern Warfare 2, Assassin's Creed 2], typically decisions are being made two years prior. And so the decisions two years ago were that those types of games would not be effective on the platform. But we’ve shown that that’s just not the case. High-quality, effectively marketed against our installed base will sell, period end of story.” – Reggie Fils-Aime

“The fundamental issue in the logic flow is that — and this is what I’m hearing, whether it’s from you or Geoff or Michael himself — is that, gosh it’s such an opportunity to take HD capability and link it with the Wii. And what we have said, repeatedly, is that that’s not the way we at Nintendo do things. The way we at Nintendo do things is, you know, when we will move to a new generation, it’s because there are some fundamental things the [current] console cannot do. What that says is that simply the addition of HD capability will not be the next step for us. There will be more to it. There will be additional capability. There will be additional elements, and, given that, it is far into the future. Not to announce [a new Wii for 2010] with you here today.” – Reggie Fils-Aime

When Nintendo’s next console is unveiled, I don’t expect HD graphics to be the focal point. Like the Wii, I’m sure the company has something else in store that will be much more significant. With that said, I wouldn’t be surprised if something like a Wii HD was announced – Just look what Nintendo is doing with the DSi!

    If at least the quality and fun of Nintendo’s first party games didn’t change then why the heck wouldn’t you want an HD Wii, I mean really??? I’d really like to be able to take advantage of my flatscreens 720p/1080p capability on a Nintendo platform. There really is no good reason not to have the next Nintendo console not be HD capable.

    I really do like what Reggie is saying about getting some of these bigger name third party games on the Wii, but I really think it’s going to take more than an install base pep talk to change these dev’s minds. Once the next console is in HD and if it is comperable in power to it’s competitors then I think we’d see more of these games coming over to Ninty. And who wouldn’t want the best of both worlds?

    If not having HD is how “Nintendo do things” then he can’t really be disappointed for not seeing those games on the Wii.
    If the games’ developers want to take advantage of HD technology and Wii can’t deliver it, Reggie can’t really blame them for not bringing their game to Nintendo’s console.
    As far as this is concerned, I disagree with Reggie.

    But I agree with the rest and what was commented above.
    A Nintendo console with enough graphical power to rival 360 and PS3 would mean the end of all hope for Microsoft and Sony’s consoles.
    Since games like CoD:MW and AC2 would most likely be in Nintendo’s console as well.

    If Nintendo’s next console has 360/PS3-like graphics, it would still kick both next-gen consoles’ asses no matter how awesome their upgrated graphics might be.

    Now that Nintendo is back on top of the mountain, they might surprise us with the next console.

    HD is fine but only an add on for good games. And let’s face the facts, The best games on this console generation are on Wii. Yes there are successful games on the PS360, like Modern Warfare 2. But MW2 is far from beeing a good game. The single player part of MW2 is like a rail shooter (but not as good as Dead Space: Extractiom) with a dull and boring storyline and last only 4-5 hours. The MP-Part is okay, but nothing special.

    Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Fire Emblem, Super Paper Mario, de Blob, Little Kings Story, Dead Space: Extraction, World of Goo, Twilight Princess etc. are the good games of this generation.

    Sorry but I dont think the best games are on WII. Zelda Twilight princess is a GameCube game. I bought it on my GameCube. Its like Resident Evil 4 because of new Controls its not a game from this Generation.

    I agree with Super Mario Galaxy and Super Paper mario and NSMB WII.

    But sorry dead Space Extraction ? An on rales shooter which sold so extremly poor that the producer itself were extremly sad and disappointed. Dead Space Extraction is not the best game of the Gen the rest is average. The best WII games are the Mario Franchise (Mario kart etc.) Metroid Prime 3 but for me the WII is more of a Multiplayer Console. The HD market is bigger then the Wii market thats why they produce the games only for the HD Consoles the WII Version would have to be completly altered another Engine different Physics etc. I dont want to see how it would look on WII if you look over Venice in AC2. It would just be extremly ugly the older games just avoided such scenes in the last Gen. They would have to alter the whole Game just for the WII and fact is that on WII most of Games which sell fantastic on PS3/360 sell poorly it just wouldnt be worht the work.

    For third party developers is it better to produce game for the HD Consoles because they earn much more money with them then with WII pretty much every thrid party developer sell way more on HD Consoles then on the WII. Just to name a few EA Ubisoft Activision-Blizzard Capcom et. And Square Enix with the upcoming FF13 FF vs 13 and FF 14 will earn more money with the HD Consoles (especially the PS3 because only one of the games releases on Xbox and only in Europe and US).

    The biggest games except of the godlike Nintendogames. I am just refering to Mario Zelda Metroid. Best Games this Gen until now Are Halo 3 MGS 4 Uncharted 1-2 Bioshock Fallout 3 Oblivion Demons Souls Mass Effect 1 plus some very good Games like GTA 4 Resident Evil 5 Call of Duty MW 1-2 Killzone 2 Little Big Planet Borderlands Resistance 1-2 Forza 2-3 Granturismo 5 prologue Dead Space Wipeout (Fury) Dragon Age Origins Fable 2 Street Fighter 4 Tekken 6 Dead or Alive Ratchet and Clank ACIT-TOD I could name atleast 40 more games and just a few Upcoming games for the HD Consoles like:

    Final Fantasy 13 FF vs 13 FF 14 Gran Turismo 5 M.A.G God of War 3 Crysis 2 Heavy Rain Splinter Cell Conviction Alan Wake Mass Effect 2 Bioshock 2 Battlefield: Bad Company 2 The Agency L.A Noir.

    Thats just a few. Its like the last 2 Gens of Nintendo (N64 and GC) They have some of the best Titels ever made but the others have massive amounts of Games which are very very good and they have atleast as much All Time Classics Nintedo has just some outstanding and almost perfect designed games and a great Multiplayer experience. But I would be most of the time bored with WII because there are simply no games and you have to wait years for the great Nintendo Titels. The HD Consoles offer the a great Diversity.

    You have the best racing Sims like Gran Turismo and Forza is a good game too. I just name a few I could name lot more. You have Platformers like Ratchet and Clank you have soon MMORPGS like Final Fantasy 14 you have a ton of RPGs the japanese one like Final Fantasy 13 and FF vs 13, SO4 and dotzens more. You have innovative games like Little Big Planet Eye pet Viva Pinata etc. You have almost a MMOFPS with M.A.G and 256 Players on one Card. You have great Action Adventures like Uncharted 1-2 Assasins Creed 1-2 You have western RPGs like Fallout 3 and Oblivion Demons Souls Fable 2 Dragon Age Origin. You have Futuristic racer like Wipeout (where the fxxx is F-Zero). Startegy games like halo Wars or Command and Conquer. Mix games between shooter and RPG like Mass Effect 1-2 and Borderlands you have Horror Games like RE 5 and Silent Hill Left 4 Dead and DeadSpace FPS and TPS like Gears of War 1-2 Halo 3 Killzone 2 Resistance 1-2 Unreal 3 Bioshock (which is more more like Metroid) Call of Duty Battlefield. And then there will be Playstation Mote (Wand) pretty similar to the Wii Controlls it has real 1:1 tracking even head tracking probably will be used in GT5 to make a real 3d effect. Xbox gets Natal Hd Consoles will be able to do everything WII can do and even more but with better Graphic ok that wont change much because WII has Nintendo Games and a huge momentum.

    Just so much games which have a very high Quality Its like always as long as nintendo is not able to feed the Hardcore Player they will never be as big as sony was in PS 2 Days. If they can unite both kinds of players hardcore and Casual they will destroy both Sony and Microsoft within a second. They need strong hardware and ALL of the Mulitplatform Games plus they need to buy more Developing Studios so they can offer games for the Adult Audience. It would be the perfect Console with Multiplayer like PSN and LIVE with Hardcore Games and Nintendo Games and Casual Games they would have everything the WII 2 has to have the functionality and the same power like the Competitors they will win forever there wouldnt be a reason to buy another Console. Today its like always if you dont buy atleast one of the Competitor Consoles you will miss almost the whole generation.

    Reggy speaks the truth but is too nice about it ,3rd party’s are deliberately doing this to try and gimp wii away that was there plan from day one resulting in nintendo STILL DOMINATING WITH DISRUPTION AND BLUE OCEAN regardless off poor 3rd party offering and making the 3rd party’s look stupid and let them fall way way behind, 3rd party actually (in there deranged insanity) thought they were more powerful than nintendo IN YOUR DREAMS 3rd partys ….

    the fact of the matter is all 3rd party’s and both hd twins are in a shrinking profit area were vast amounts of devs publishers etc are loosing big, nintendo stands alone almost totally unchallenged and will continue disrupting the gaming market and culture basically washing Sony and Microsoft away…

    a simple HD wii may or may not work but if nintendo can hold out a wii bit longer then why not another leap forward in console innovation or a complete re-think and go portable only as the portable is also console capable i can see nintendo going hybrid it makes so much sense to a GAMER WHO CAN THINK FOR ONE’S SELF……

    maybe 3d maybe some innovation but i think 50/50 that the jump could be a do it all machine

    4xcore ARM A9 cpu @ 2ghz is like 1 watt of power nintendo use arm’s in ds,dsi,gba and in wii as a work back ground cpu

    please a hybrid console/portable it would be so cool….

    Sorry, but as big as a Nintendo fan as I am, facts are facts.
    There are awesome games out there not coming to Wii.
    By buying a 360 or a PS3 and a Wii is the only way you’ll get to play mostly all the awesome games of this gen. That’s just a fact.

    But I know Nintendo has something up their sleeve.
    They know the only way to get the 3rd party’s attention is offering HD with their next console.
    Think about it.
    Nintendo’s next console with motion controls + HD + whatever new innovation they might come up with = WiiN

    3rd parties aren’t very bright for the most part. They just want more graphics and they are easily bought.
    If Nintendo offers them what they are after, they will come to Nintendo.
