Wii Shop Channel down for maintenance

October 20th, 2009 Posted in News, Wii, Written by Austin

Untitled-1

Update: Apparently, the DSi Shop Channel is down as well (thanks to Valay for informing me!). As soon as we find out when they’re back up, we’ll be sure to let you guys know!

When I tried to access the Wii Shop Channel today, a message popped up notifying me that the Wii Shop Channel was being worked on, and (as usual) didn’t give me any sort of time frame as to when it’d be back up. Normally this wouldn’t really merit much of a news story (the Wii Shop Channel has been down numerous times in the past with little or no visible improvements) but in light of Denise Kaigler’s recent comments about online Wii owners getting a bit of a surprise soon, this may be worth watching.

More info as it comes in!

Heres hoping for some cool new features!!! Not holding my breath, but it would be cool to see the whole wii shop channel revamped with some new channels and a DLC center.

Downloadable demos would also be a dream come true.

I’m gonna side with Keyz on this one: Downloadable Wii demos would be an absolute dream.

Downloadable demos would be a dream come true, but also a pipe dream. The Wii has very limited internal storage capacity and most Wii owners probably don’t even realize they have a SD memory slot, let alone something filling it.

    But here’s to hoping.

Oh come on you peps… saying demos are coming is just utterly stupid & you know that; for Nintendo is never going to do that! :(
It’s just probably to give it a better update if the DSi Shop is also down; but for Wii owners I bet the Club Nintendo offer for Doc Lewis’ Punch-Out is being finalized or something! ;)

    @Josh: We can dream, can’t we? =P

But if it was Doc Louis’ Punch-Out!!, why would Denise say that it was a surprise for everyone that had their Wii hooked up to the internet? Unless this event is completely unrelated to that, I suppose.

well for the DS I have no clue what they’re doing, but for Wii i’m guessing its that October get free points for if you bought the Internet Channel. They said it would come in October and its almost over but yet it still hasn’t came yet. but i’m with you guys on the fact that I wish it was demos. but it probably wont be :P or It could just be a makeover like the Nintendo Channel got. but another thing i’m looking forward to is this Nintendo Channel exclusive announcement.

The problem isn’t just with the shop channels; I can’t download add-on content for games like FFIV: The After Years or Rock Band 2. I’m guessing this is all connected to the Wii Shop Maintenance.

@yellow Edge, I don’t think so because mine is working fine… I just upgraded my Wii and downloaded a game.

Thats a bummer. I was hoping it had something to do with Denise’s comment she said the other day. :(

And yes wii could handle downloadable demos, especially with the sdhc card accesibitly/support there is now. It doesnt matter if everyone knew about it, point is Nintendo could do it.

I think we all know by now it was for that stinking “free NES game” offer if you used 500 points for the Internet Channel! Other than those who are giddy about that deal; there are those, like me, that hate it… because I never had to buy the stinking internet channel! BOOO!!! :(
