Rumor: Famitsu delayed due to Nintendo announcement
October 20th, 2009 Posted in Rumors, Wii, Written by ValayTraditionally, details from Famitsu magazine are leaked on Monday nights, before the magazine hits newsstands in Japan on Thursday. However, we’re still without information in spite of the fact that it’s Tuesday morning in North America. Because of this, a few Japanese gamers are running wild with a rumor that the latest edition of Famitsu has been delayed due to a Nintendo announcement. Of course, this would mean that the company requested that Famitsu hold back from sending the most recent issue out.
Shigeru Miyamoto is actually speaking at the Digital Contents Expo this Saturday, and what he discusses may or may not be connected to the rumored announcement. But because no one in Japan apparently has the most recent Famitsu magazine, I’m holding back on posting the review scores from the October 22 edition, as some of the scores might be fake.
Right now, though, you should keep in mind that all of this is complete speculation. There’s a possibility that there really is no announcement and that Miyamoto may not be talking about any new game(s) on Saturday. However, I decided to post this since a few of you have sent this tip our way. We’ll just have to see what happens over the next few days.

Wow, so we get a teased IGN title from Nintendo. We get Martinet saying he did the voice work on a new Mario game. And now we have Famitsu coming late amidst rumors of a huge Nintendo announcement. It could all just be coincidence or someone trying to drum up speculation. But OOOOOOOO if it isn’t!

Yeah, I mean, the signs are there and everything, but you have to wonder if the rumor was started simply because of what’s happened the last few days.

While leaked Famitsu scores usually appear on Mondays, I have read that Bayonetta for the Xbox 360 and PS3 received this year’s third 40/40 — the eighth “perfect” score in the last five years. In fact, most of these scores that Famitsu gave out were from games released since 2005. If what I read is confirmed, for Famitsu giving out “perfect” scores while the games have noticable flaws (Bayonetta is one of them) and are published by very influencial companies (Square-Enix) shows how unreliable a reviewing outlet it is. Please take Famitsu’s scores with a “grain of salt.”

Thomas N, judging by the demo Bayonetta is a new word in the hack and slash – action genre. It is totally amazing!

@Thomas,
I couldn’t agree with your comment about taking Famitsu’s reviews with a grain of salt. Since I started reviewing games almost a year ago now, it’s become very apparent to me just how padded all the “Big Name Game Sites” reviews really are. It’s very obvious that money, exclusives, gifts and other favors are definitely changing hands between developers/publishers and the the game review publications. It’s a very “good ole’ boys” mentality all around, when you can see the depth of it, it’s shocking to say the least. I see very, very, very few sites or publications whose opinions and reviews aren’t for sale. Journalistic integrity is almost non-existent.

I don’t know if it’s a product of selling out, but I will agree that reviewers hand out WAY too many 10s nowadays. A 10 used to mean “as close to perfection as can be imagined” and now it seems like it just means “really good” or “really hyped”.
