Nintendo censors Metroid Prime Trilogy over small curse word

August 31st, 2009 Posted in News, Wii, Written by Valay

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption featured the first heavy dialogue voice overs in a Metroid game. Actually, the first few minutes of the game sported more exchanges than what can be seen in all of the other Metroid titles put together.

In one particular scene, Admiral Dane says, “Damn! They’re targeting the planetary-defense system.” Yet Nintendo felt compelled to censor “damn” for the re-release of Corruption in Metroid Prime Trilogy. When playing through the game on the Trilogy disc, the sentence can now be seen/heard as “No! They’re targeting the planetary-defense system.”

It’s a bit odd that Nintendo changed one little word this time around. Most gamers probably wouldn’t even think twice about listening to the word “damn” while playing. Seeing as how Nintendo deemed it perfectly fine to leave it in there the first time, it makes one wonder what motivated the censorship of that one word.

So who cares?! It’s just one little curse word; & it’s not like little kids would play the game anyways?!

You wouldn’t understand the simplicity of it; people don’t exactly swear like everyday you know! :(

Damn! Oh well. It’s not that big of a deal to me.
I bet Metroid Other M will have heavy dialogue all over the place.

I don’t have a problem with it at all, actually. Curse words are overrated and immature, so I’m glad Nintendo took the high road to eliminate it.

Who cares? It’s rated T anyway. I wish they would be more mature more often.

Thank you; some people understand it’s that big of a deal! ;)

It’s rated T. “Damn” can be heard in PG movies. It’s fine.

Since when is ‘damn’ a curse word? Is it just a U.S thing?

what a damn shame it is to have damn just…. well you know….just damn well removed.

Seriously though, it wasn’t necessary to add in the game in the first place and it won’t be missed now. But it truly is strange to make the efforts to remove it from an already finished product. Damn strange.

And yes, it’s a U.S. thing. We shelter anyone and everyone language wise but the FCC doesn’t mind the words damn, bastard, and bitch to be televised on prime time family television. Or radio for that matter, unless the radio personality is Howard Stern… then EVERYWORD matters to the FCC. But children’s cartoons can have unlimited violence and graphic busty women with cleavage all around. U.S. is a confusing place to live with so many laws and morality concerns that are misplaced and of no concern unless it supports some political agenda.

seriously Nintendo are killing the gaming world!

    damn!? what da hell!?

Calm down, xino. ;) As most here seem to get, it’s just a word. Doesn’t affect the game in any meaningful way, it’s still the Metroid Prime 3 we know and love.
