Capcom vs. Nintendo “an interesting idea,” says Tatsunoko vs. Capcom producer
August 15th, 2009 Posted in News, Wii, Written by ValayCapcom characters have crossed paths with a number of other members from significant franchises in previous fighting titles. But how does Capcom vs. Nintendo sound? Tatsunoko vs. Capcom producer Ryota Niitsuma doesn’t seem opposed to the possibility and even told NGamer magazine that it’s “an interesting idea.”
“As you know, we like our Capcom Vs series – we have quite a few: SNK, Marvel, Tatsunoko. An interesting idea would be Capcom Vs Nintendo. Capcom wins!”
While I’m not really sure if Niitsuma was being completely serious, the idea does indeed seem intriguing.
In other “vs. Capcom” news, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom was originally going to feature Phoenix Wright and Franziska von Karma, but the development team ultimately decided against including the characters. Niitsuma hopes that Phoenix Wright can make an appearance in a future title, however.

That is a good idea, only problem is it would only be on wii. Including Nintendo characters guarentees wii exclusivity.

@Cuddly: Why is it a problem that it would only be on the Wii? That doesn’t seem like a problem.

It wouldn’t be a problem. In fact, it’d make financial sense. (Unlike most HD support.) Sounds like Cuddly’s either trying to quietly troll or, like many, isn’t really aware of how bad the competitors are for gaming financially, how few PS3 and 360 games actually make money, let alone a noteworthy profit.
That said, on topic, a game like this would no doubt go over far better than Tatsunoko ultimately will, since as fun as even Tatsunoko is, a game like this’d offer a far more accessible stable of characters to westerners. (Where, classic as Tatsunoko’s characters are, they’re not exactly well known or widely celebrated.)

Sounds like an interesting idea. My only fear is that Nintendo’s involvement might mean that the game will lose alot of what makes a traditional fighter work be trying to skew it towards a casual audience.

Sup d3v!
I think it could do well so lond as Nintendo lets Capcom do their jobs (ala no anti violence)and occasionally add some input or creative idea

I just thought about this the other day! No Lie!! Yes this would be awesome! Please do it!

But we already have Smash Bros. Can’t they just include Mega Man and maybe a few Capcom-related Assist Trophies and call it a day?

What Objection! said. I think Nintendo characters would look awkward as 2D, semi-realistic sprites.

“Nintendo vs Capcom” probably won’t happen for the same reason Namco vs Capcom didn’t. MvC, CvS, TvC, etc. works because the games are or have fairly traditional fighters.
Namco has Tekken, a game which deviates from tradition slightly, but enough to make Namco x Capcom an RPG. Nintendo has Smash Bros. which is a rather unorthodox fighter. Besides the gameplay objectives, it doesn’t have a lot of similarities with Street Fighter, DarkStalkers, etc.
This is why I think “Nintendo x Capcom” would be the better idea here. Not as a RPG, but as a beat ‘em up, a genre closely related to fighters, yet distinct. This’ll fit for both camps.
Capcom knows how to make awesome beat ‘em ups, hence Final Fight, Viewtiful Joe, etc. Add Nintendo to the mix, and you got a winner.
I want to see Professor Layton team up with Phoenix Wright, PTX-40A vs Ridley, Mario and Ryu vs Bowser and Bison, etc. in a world that ties Nintendo to Capcom and vice versa.
It’ll sell like hot cakes.

I don’t really like the idea… All other fighting games besides SSB series just seem too boring. It would be better to just include some capcom characters in SSB4.

“I think Nintendo characters would look awkward as 2D, semi-realistic sprites.”
Really? Its not like most of Nintendos popular franchises spawned in 2D forms….Oh wait.
By iono2erfno on Aug 16, 2009
they should make it, but as a smash brothers game

Go for it, I’ve been waiting for a good cross between two of my favorite game companies. I’m not just talking about how smash bros. had one Konami character, and one sega character along with assist tropheys and maps, I’m talking about full pledge nintendo vs. capcom.
I do agree with Sole about the tradition though, it’ll be tough to make a game with two of the most traditional gaming companies characters. They’re unique in fighting, but should have an interesting bout none the less.
