Monster Hunter 3 graphics so impressive that Zelda team faced pressure
July 31st, 2009 Posted in News, Wii, Written by ValayJust how impressive are the graphics in Monster Hunter 3? Well, apparently they stunned Nintendo designers and members of the Zelda team. In an Iwata Asks interview, Nintendo’s boss stated that the Zelda devs were under intense pressure after seeing how the game looked. Perhaps this is an indication that the visuals in Link’s next outing will be a top priority.
Members from the Monster Hunter 3 team also noted that they understood Nintendo’s console hasn’t been known for featuring the most excellent graphics, but that they are imperative to the Monster Hunter experience. Therefore, the team was striving to make Monster Hunter 3 the best-looking title on the platform.
There were a number of other details from the interview, some of which you can check out below.
- Motion control was considered at one point but was cut because it would be too tiring for gamers playing for long hours
- The game almost didn’t make an appearance at TGS last year because they had just finished mapping the controls – There was relief when good feedback for the Wiimote was relayed
- Nintendo approached the team regarding the Classic Controller Pro – This marks the first time Nintendo has worked with a third-party company to create new Wii hardware

will monster hunter 3 be in 1080p on the wii, or at least 720p? and will the graphics be as pretty as uncharted 2 or killzone 2 on the ps3? the conduit looks beautiful and i know zelda will look awesome on the wii.

I can’t figure out if you’re actually being serious or if you’re making one very unfunny joke.

@dylantalon
The Wii can’t have as much graphics as the PS3 retard, the Wii is just a shinier version of the Ps2 with a WiiMote

considering monster hunter series has some of ther best looking grqaphics on psp i’m not surprised its the best looking wii game i bet its up there with galaxy. Capcom are certainly impressing with their graphics technology this gen bearing in mind MT framework. i wonder if their wii tech is related.

Actually the gamecube is more powerful than the ps2. And the wii is at least twice as powerful as the gamecube.
Of course it can’t compete with other consoles in this generation in graphical capability, but still…get your facts right.

@SC
The Wii clocks in almost twice as much power as the first XBox.
Trust me it out performs the PS2.

@Cardeecore
The Wii can actually pass 480p, it just can’t be done in hardware.
The guys behind the game itself would have to spend some of the CPU or GPU to add in extra pixels to support larger resolutions.
It’s possible, it’s just that developers don’t want to do that and waste what the consoles power could’ve been used for.

THE WII IS THE POWER OF 2 XBOX ORIGINALS AND 2 GAMECUBES FACTOR 5 SAID IT AND EXPLAINED IT ASWELL I WAS STUNNED BUT THE WII HAS ALOT OF STUFF NO ONE SPEAKS ABOUT LIKE S3 FOR REALISTIC TEXTURES AND PPU,A GPU COMPARABLE TO 360 GPU THE TEV FACTOR 5 SAID U CAN MAKE ULTRA REALISTIC GRAPHICS WITH HE SAID THE GAMECUBE COULD HAVE GOT EVEN BETTER THAN RESIDENT EVIL 4 AND ROUGUE SQUADRON ECT SO IMAGINE WHAT WII CAN DO WITH 4 TIMES THE POWER HE SAID XBOX AND GAMECUBE WHERE SAME POWER JUST GAMECUBE IS CUSTOM PROGRAMMING XBOX WAS LIKE A PC TO COD FOR EASIER GAMECUBE HARDER BUT BETTER RESULTS WHEN U TRY SAME AS WII WAIT FOR FACTOR 5 3 GAMES THEY WILL BE AMAZING

@ SC:
are you a fucking retard?!!!
The Wii is many times more powerful than the PS2. Sure PS2 is a great system but it had the WORST capabilities of any system last gen (PS2, Xbox, GCN) and Monster Hunter 3 looks like an early 360 release I’m honestly amazed that they could get the Wii too handle such gorgeous graphics! GO CAPCOM!

SC is a dumb*** he forgot to account for the fact that the gdram for the wii is like 4x faster than the gdram in the ps2. look the wii is much faster than the xbox, it looks the same when u read the spec, but if u actually KNOW the hardware u would know that it would out perform. it’s like comparing a P4 3.2 ghz dual to a core 2 duo 3.2 ghz, same clock, same amount of cores, but which would u pick? i would pick the p4 because i’m broke but if i aint i would pick the core 2 duo, because EVERYTHING else beside the clock amount is better. same thing with wii, disc read is faster, everything is faster. also the ps2 can’t read dual layer dvds, it can only read single layer but extended space, like single layer but the disc can handle up to 8gbs, but can not read dual (2x 4.7gb) dvds. the wii can, so if the disc would be (2x 8gb) dual layer if the devs want their game to be. the wii have wifi, u need some power to run the hardware, wii have sd card reader, u need a good processor to read and run games from sd card in real time at 60fps in game. there are a TON of SH*T that u dont know so u can just shut up. plus the wii is technically the ps2 SLIM but the wii is NOT A SLIM VERSION, think about that. if they had made the wii as big as the ps2, they could have fit more hardware into it.

If they are not using motion controls why are they developing for the wii? Thats the whole point of the console

…wow. This thread has degenerated pretty quickly. I think that the Wii is fun and it’s hard to compare to the 360 or PS3, both in terms of hardware and price.
I’m excited for this. Hopefully both will work well.

I would love to get tired playing Zelda on Wii. The point is to get into the character and I think Link would be tired too in such a long adventure.

This game looks great and if the Zelda team has had any concern this will make them push the system to the extreme, no one knows their hardware better then them so just imagine what the next Zelda will look like
MH3 just made the guys at Nintendo have to work that much harder to impress me now lol…

I was actualy going to get this, but without the motion plus… I just don’t see the point. It’s just like every other wii game, I want to try something new! I want a good game that utilises the M+, looks like I’ll have to wait until Zelda!
