Confirmed: Nintendo Power review score of The Conduit

May 22nd, 2009 Posted in News, Wii, Written by Valay

Small update: Summary of the review below.

The first review of The Conduit is officially in. Numerous pictures of the upcoming issue of Nintendo Power prove that this score is the real deal.

Though the game received far from a perfect score, the magazine has given the game the ultimate accolade by stating that The Conduit is “the best pure first-person shooter on Wii.” However, there are a number of valid criticisms. Specifically, Nintendo Power cites unimpressive AI, a weak weapon selection, and a predictable story. On the other hand, NP discussed the control system and online support in a very positive manner.

Summary

- 8.0
- Great adventure, but doesn’t measure up to “big guns” of the genre.
- Predictable story.
- Unimpressive AI.
- Little innovation aside from the controls…
-…yet their quality, which owes a lot to their customizability, mostly overshadow these issues.
- Locales look great for the most part though the level of details can be inconsistent.
- Finely tuned level design based more around covering yourself and surviving than “run ‘n gun”.
- Lack of destructible environments is a disappointment.
- Great, satisfying to use weapons selection.
- ASE is cool, but under-utilized.
- Impressively smooth online experience.
- Cliffhanger ending hinting at a sequel

Well I was hoping for a 9.0 but a solid 8.0 is still a good score :) …… hopefully all the lil things will be fixed in the ineviatable sequel !!

These days, I wish there were no reviews where any weirdo could read it. Too many people want to follow someone else these days. From what I read, I think alot of people will not get it cause of that. Lots of negative comments with a high score? I hate that stuff… I miss word of mouth by regular people who played the game, not someone who has played too many games all the time and judges it by every other game.

8 is a good score for me, but they also gave sonic the black knight an 8 so……haha, anyway, hopefully we will see a lot more reviews soon. cant wait to buy this game!

  5. By opiumx on May 23, 2009

Bah,,,…. Sonic was alright, but not $50 alright. More like $25 alright. I just wish they would not say so many bad things about a game and then leave it a good score?? Are they getting paid? heh…. Regardless, never trust a review always try the game yourself. Think of it this way, would u not buy shoes cause a review said they are out of fashion? No, you should buy them if u like them and they are comfortable.

I agree with all of you Nintendo Fan Boys! In my perspective, I have seen many videos of The Conduit. It definetly made me joyful. I give The Conduit the Dark Award. A 10, A+, and when The Conduit launches. For 12 player online. I know there would hackers/moders making this game bad-ass. A stupid magazine shouldn’t judge anything. The Conduit will make third partys party! Read the exsclusive Blog over at the home of Nintendo. Via http://www.1UP.com Search for DarkSkilled1. but you need reviews so you know what games are absolute shite and not worth the full price.
like xmen origins was good but not 120 bucks good.
or damnation is a absolute piece of shit not worth 20 bucks let alone 120.
thats why we need reviews but they need to remove the point system and just have a good and bad part.
because well theres ALOT of games that have got higher scores than other games, so people will think the games that got the higher score are better, wich couldent be further from the truth.
example star wars TFU from ign and alot of sites got a 7 mercenaries from ign got a 8, so mercenaries 2 is a better game? HELL NO
    see my point?

    >“the best pure first-person shooter on Wii.”

Isn’t that due to lack of competition?

“I miss word of mouth by regular people who played the game, not someone who has played too many games all the time and judges it by every other game.”

Huh? Isn’t that what the internet is, essentially?

If anything, before the internet, people only had 2-3 magazines to depend on for reviews (written by those you’d consider ’someone who has played too many games all the time, etc.’)

At least nowadays you have at least 30 reviews and 100 blogs and 1000+ comments being written for each significant release that comes out.

Also, in the “old days”, if one of your friends didn’t play a game, you never got introduced to it. It’s one of the reasons why most people can only name 4-5 good PS1 games, and aren’t aware of all the B-rated decent titles that would have received these 8.0 review scores and some decent exposure to the general public.

I was getting excited for this game, but I might pirate it now. Cliffhanger ending? Forcing me to buy a sequel to see the whole story? Fuck that. That sucks.

  12. By Some_Guy on May 23, 2009

Either this game (the conduit) sucks, or Nintendo Power is going downhill.

I just checked the june Nintnedo Power, and MadWorld got 9/10…….. so either this game is worse than mad-world, or nintnedo power has no idea how to reate games, imo.

nintendo power read this one wrong. are they saying the conduit is the same as sonic unleashed and COD WAW? come on. how could it get 8.0 if COD WAW got a 8.0. but yet its the best FPS on wii?

    WTF??

  14. By Brasi82 on May 23, 2009

Nintendo Power has never really been known for there high scores for games, especially FPS’s. I’m happy overall about the score. I mean they gave Punch Out!! a 8.5 and I would easily give that game a 9 or even a 9.5.

  15. By TriChronos on May 24, 2009

It’s true, the Nintendo Power staff has never really been known for their love of the FPS. This is actually a pretty good score.

8? from official nintendo magazine? Prepare for a FLOP everyone.

  17. By snoozy on May 26, 2009

It won so many awards at E3 2008 though. Magazines these days…

Those of you have been around long enough probably remember when Goldeneye was reviewed by the same magazine. Just a hint, it wasn’t even above 8 when Nintendo Power reviewed Goldeneye, and it turned out to be the best multiplayer game ever.
Honestly, I don’t think the single player mode will be that great for the Conduit, and it doesn’t matter as long as it has kick ass multiplayer, and that’s what makes a game last. The Conduit for sure, no matter the reviews, is going to be the most played online game for the wii.

WHAT THE FUCK! bad ai my ass hvs worked hard at that! its a fps all story lines from first person shooters are predictable! and if it is the best fps for wii then why does call of duty have a higher score

  20. By kof4life on Jun 3, 2009

You guys are all depressed with the review. It is one mag. Plus you really have to play it yourself. That is like taking one person’s word on a games overall quality. Maybe it is an 8 for that person, what will it be for you?
