Parents’ gaming ban leads to boy’s suicide
May 22nd, 2009 Posted in General Nintendo, News, Written by ValayIt’s not uncommon to hear of a parent taking away their child’s video games when they feel he/she is addicted. Unfortunately, one boy committed suicide after his parents declared he could no longer play. A 12-year-old schoolboy in Bangkok, Thailand was quite upset following his parents words. In fact, police were able to discover that messages were to sent to his friends saying, “tomorrow is my last day.”
The boy reached school that day, but then simply put his backpack on his desk, arrived to the sixth floor and as you would probably expect, jumped and met his death. Thailand’s Ministry of Health failed to show any compassion for the parents and noted that the situation should have been handled differently. “For children addicted to gaming, the most effective approach is not to ban games but to regulate the time spent gaming.”

Kids get more and more weird these days. Back in my time a kid in my school killed himself because people picked on him alot. At least that makes sense, and at least it didnt lead to a shooting or something. These days someone loses a game save and they go kill a cat or something. Sad, very sad.

Kids that do stupid stuff like that you shouldn’t feel sorry for them because there so dumb there a burden to this world anyway imagine him being an adult and some breaks his adult toy/game or what not and than he kills the guy. That’s what would happen if they lived to an adult age.

Bah! Kids need what we wanted back in the day, chicks! Too much spoilage with internets and online games. Back in my day, googling a girl meant something completely different.

Yea I never understood what they are trying to do, ensure that their future brother or sister get to play games all the time?

And with that, natural selection moves the human race one step closer to pefection.

If you completely cut off a crack addict’s supply of crack, he suffers from withdrawls, goes insane, and causes harm to others. The same thing applies here. Parents should not underestimate the power of addiction, especially if it’s in a situation where the addiction is the only thing providing sustenance and sanity to its abuser.
Many people rely on their addictions to give their life reason, or to escape from their pain. They drink, do drugs, play games, gamble, or shop excessively. Is it the right way to deal with their problems? Certainly not. But it is a quick, if not short-lived, escape.
The child may have made a foolish choice in deciding to end his life; this is unarguable. Suicide is never the best answer. But to completely declare that his choice is wrong without considering the motives behind his actions or the situation he was placed in is an even greater mistake, one that could potentially lead to great sadness, such as the case is here.
Of course, he could just be a totally spoiled brat who committed suicide because he wasn’t getting treated like a king. That’s always a possibility too. But it is only one of many conflicting possibilities.
Use wisdom. Never judge a situation based on its surface appearance. Do not view the world in pure blacks and whites. There may be far more to this than is implied.

Sardonic commentary on the tragic demise of a troubled child from a legion of d!ckheads who troll in the name of droll. Brilliance thy name is pathos. Middle school comedy has came so far. What a shame little dude could not have been as cool, funny and evolved as wii who post on nintendoeverything. Peace.

If this child was that troubled over a videogame he would deffinetly done worse in the future when he faced real problems, its sad when a child makes a stupid and selfish decision, and I don’t blame the parents for taking away his sytem, they were doing their job called parenting, something most parents don’t do when it comes 2 videogames, what would he have done if his parents smashed it in front of him or gave it away. Its not like common sense wouldn’t have told him his parents would eventually give it back, he was most likely already disturbed to even consider suicide, so honestly the school shouldn’t have pointed the finger because they are with the child more than his parents, they should have recognized his issues and made sure he was being supervised 2 begin with ! I don’t feel bad for the kid, I feel bad for his parents trying to do the right thing and put barriers for their kid, for him to be selfish and think about his on needs instead or respecting his parents 4 looking out 4 his well being !

Looks like the parents failed at parenting in the first place to let it come this far.
At least he “only” hurt himself and did not pick up his fathers gun and went to school with it.
Sad to see what world we live in today. Games being the only purpose in a kids life.

I was never limited in my game-play… and I don’t sit around and play games 24/7. Sure, I spent alot of time on the PC and chat with friends but when I needed to do something I got up and did it… the key to the whole situation is find something else that the kid may like and make it a routine. Saying you have 1hr on the PC is not a worthwhile solution. Giving him something else to do is more productive.

There were more reasons than simply banning him from games. Parental problems, social problems, probably even mental problems.
Besides, “suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem!” Thus, I don’t feel sorry what-so-ever.

After reading I agreed with you but come on it’s make no sense at all a kid killed himself because people picked on him a lot. If you find it’s ok you are weird too and you have no compassion like a lot of people these days. Kids are evil between them and the problem often comes from the parents education (sometime parents are not socialy educated so how they can learn thing to their child to be polite and respect others)
